# Pasting Text to Target

Kiwi lets you send host clipboard text to the target computer by simulating keystrokes. The keyboard layouts on the host and target must match to prevent errors. First, copy the text you want to transfer to your clipboard. Then use the keyboard shortcut, or choose Tools -> Paste Text to Target, to paste it to the target computer.

{% hint style="info" %}
The keyboard shortcut by default is Ctrl+Shift+P; prior to v1.5.15 it was Ctrl+Shift+V.

In either case, they can be re-mapped in the Settings > Hotkeys tab.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
There is a 1,000-character limit on the amount of text you can paste to the target computer each time.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://cytrence.gitbook.io/cytrence-kiwi-document/kiwi-standard-features/pasting-text-to-target.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
