# What if I can see the target screen but the keyboard/mouse doesn't work as expected?

If the target screen is showing in Kiwi App window, it is a good sign that the host-side connection (via USB3) and the HDMI connection on the target-side are working.

However, if the keystroke or mouse movement on the host is not reflecting to the target, please follow check the following possibilities:

* **Missing or loose USB connection to the target**

  Unlike the single USB3 connection on the host-side, the keyboard/mouse events need to be sent to the target through an USB port besides HDMI. \
  \
  Please make sure the USB cable from the target-side of Kiwi to the target device is connected properly. If the target has multiple USB ports, try another one to avoid connector specific issues.

* **The Kiwi App is not in focus**

  By default, the Kiwi App works in 'Desktop Integration Mode' (see [General Tab](/cytrence-kiwi-document/kiwi-settings/interactive-blocks.md) for reference) which requires the Kiwi App window to be 'in-focus' in order to capture the keyboard/mouse events from the host.\
  \
  Please click on the title bar to ensure the Kiwi App is focused first, then move the mouse or type the keyboard inside the target window. 

* **Require 'Capture/Release Mode'**\
  The default 'Desktop Integration Mode' in Kiwi App enables seamless switching between the host and target screens. But in some cases, the host operating system may intercept certain keyboard/mouse events without giving them to the Kiwi App.

  \
  To fully capture all the keyboard/mouse events without interference from the host, please try to switch the 'Interaction Mode' to 'Capture/Release Mode' (in [General Tab](/cytrence-kiwi-document/kiwi-settings/interactive-blocks.md)) and check if the target can be more responsive. <br>

* **The target only supports legacy keyboard**

  While the modern devices support full range of the USB standard, some types of legacy device only accept keyboards in legacy mode.\
  \
  Fortunately, Kiwi can simulate such 'Legacy Keyboard Mode' (in [KB/Mouse Tab](/cytrence-kiwi-document/kiwi-settings/kb-mouse-tab.md)) to improve the compatibility with legacy devices.&#x20;

* **The USB port on target is locked**

  If the target device has security software installed such as USBGuard or agents from the security vendors for endpoint protection, the USB port that Kiwi connected to might have been locked.\
